World-selfing and self-worlding 🪬. In today’s Level Up ⬆️ immersion I was noticing how much our coping strategies assume and defend a world. For example, “I’m quiet because I’m afraid I don’t belong,” assumes and reifies that belonging is a thing that others can grant or deny. This was beautiful to see, and apply to myself (“I’ll share deep insights to earn loving acceptance” assumes loving acceptance is somewhere other than here already) but then I noticed how I was only emphasizing the world-assumption. And I don’t know how any human could ever know of a world without a knower—so whenever we say "world,” we really mean “world+self,” and whenever we say “self,” we really mean “self+world.” So if I’m assuming and defending a world, I’m also assuming and defending a self.

As another example I was reconnecting with an old friend as he described how complex the world is and how simple and low-bandwidth our models of it are. Yes! I agree! Applying the world+self awareness, I see how my self-concept is extremely simple and low-bandwidth compared to the wild complexity of who I am in ‘reality.’

Recursively, the recognition of self+worlding/world+selfing still enacts a world and a self. I don’t think we can stand outside of such a process; we can though shift our sense of what a self and a world are to be more aware of/surrendered into/as the process of this happening. As serious as this sounds, the outcome, if done right, should be more access to a light-hearted playfulness (because we’re always a little mistaken about what’s real and who we are) and heart-break (because everything we love is ephemeral). The heart breaks open to be more with what's here rather than what we hoped—but the grief for what was, is, and what we wanted, is felt more intensely.

Recognizing the process while being the process shifts the locus from defending particular self+worlds to fluid participation in constructing. Self becomes verb rather than noun, world becomes activity rather than container.

I like it.  Have you examples/experiences with “fluid participation in constructing”?  Cheers!

Sci fi futures, developmental futures. A future I love includes some of these; what do you guys see?

    • Everyone is wealthy AF. Used to be only the uber-wealthy had private drivers, now upper-middle income city dwellers all have a private driver on demand (uber/lyft). This is for everyone, rural and otherwise, and it's not just about drivers. Private chefs, personal trainers, a feeling of safety from violence or crime, opportunities for meaningful use of your day, plenty of leisure, specialized health care, respect, travel; all of the things that appear to be available to only the wealthy are obviously available to all. The vision doesn't depend on government or private ways of getting there.
    • Space travel and interplanetary / galactic civilizations. Not like The Expanse, these are peacefully interacting both as humans and with other galactic civilizations, yet represent an incredible, unimaginable diversity of culture and experiences. Post humans with wild gene-editing so people can breathe underwater or fly or even survive in hard vaccuum, cyborg integrations, etc. Faster than light travel? Yes please.
    • Meaning and purpose: People embrace deep questions about meaning and purpose as existential quests; like puberty we understand that we go through cycles of meaning and purpose, and we know that 'the game' is to stay aligned with an ever-evolving "dharma" —a soul obligation/purpose that's deeply personal to us and the curriculum we need to learn. Plus, we've normalized loving (serving and being devotion with each other, playing, learning, growing) as daily drivers of meaning and purpose just as we do with children
    • Developmental awareness normalized. So many problems become opportunities when we see them through the developmental stack. So many psychological and sociociological studies get contextualized and properly understood and limited.
    • Developmental studies are clarified. Instead of a bunch of divergent views there's a broad consensus with lots of people exploring the nuances in different places, contexts, etc, all the up and down the developmental stack including atoms.
    • "Education" is play
    • Micro-communities are healthy tribal, but not ethnocentric and murderous. The interoperate with ease.
    • Full integration with nature. Even on generation ships and in space and on other planets. In some ways this redefines what integration with nature is; in other ways it's just obviously better and more integrated. Like walking down a hallway of an apartment complex has more lush nature, animals, water, etc

I wanna double-click on the interoperability of micro-communities. I think this is actually super crux-y for humanity. Developing protocols whereby seemingly diverse micro-communities can rapidly build common ground and trust sufficient for productive collaboration might become...

New here. No idea how this works yet. Just "tweeting" into the void. Or perhaps "trusting" into the void. : )

amen and welcome! In many ways we're still figuring out how this works too, and you're invited to help us make it a beautiful and generative place.

VP debate. God, it’s so painful to watch these debates. All I hear is vote for my party, we’re the best and they suck! No, vote for MY party, WE’RE the best and THEY suck!

I wholeheartedly agree. The images will eventually be replaced, and there will be a little context summary, but I’m not sure if this is/will be enough, and I’d love to get other ideas and brainstorm on...

What kind of content do you like engaging with? I’m exploring and uptrusting and experimenting here.

Seems like some of us are into posting musings or frames we Believe In or are currently exploring. Some are treating the space like a Xanga or LiveJournal (which i love tbh). I’ve posted a practical question.

What kind of content are you enjoying? What do you want to engage with?
