People are arrogant, selfish, self serving, icy cold and distant to each other's suffering, disinterested in learning how and why to make decisions that are pivotal to their's and other's well being. And the kindest people are very often the cruelest to others when made angry.
-The other side of 'love' is the hate of people who threaten the things we love.
-The other side of 'peace' is the cooperation of powerful forces against the common man.
-The other side of 'loyalty' is favoritism and the rejection of justice.
-The other side of 'pride' is putting one's self over others.
-The other side of 'faith' is the bad decisions made because of that belief in support, regardless of understanding.
-The other side of 'bravery' is naivety or even stupidity.
And too many people hold that these are ethical stances and should be upheld and even admired in others, and because of that some even flaunt these traits in themselves because it's socially safe to be vain in these ways, when all of these behaviors are actually UNethical because of the lack of analysis that goes into them, and thereby poor decision-making that they lead to, causing harm. These are the people we worship as 'heroes.' The one's advertising practices that support harm.
Add these culturally blind misjudgments to the very real behavior that the very large majority of us are disinterested in learning how and why to make decisions that are pivotal to their's and other's well being and you have a recipe for a very dysfunctional world leaning toward self inhalation. We can't change our nature, but WE CAN our ethics. It’d be ethical to save the world and make the things living within it healthy and happy, but it’s ethics, ...our own ethics, that stands in the way of that moral imperative. The ethics of our past serve the people doing well in our societies over millennia.....The powerful, the rich, the self centered and selfish. they're the ethics of childish minds. We already have a world bent on helping those who help themselves, what we need is a CORRECTION to the human condition. We can't just throw peace and love at everything and expect them to magically make the world a better place. Intention isn't what actually happens, intention is only what we want to happen. What we need are a new set of ethical rules made from reflecting on the actual human condition, and not general goodness to counter general evilness. What we need is a new set of ethics that keeps these lessons, that humankind has learned the hard way over and over again, in mind.
