Just About Famous
Just saw a documentary film that was released on Netflix a few years back called Just About Famous. Although its subject matter is a popular documentary trope of follow individuals in a niche field, this film is extremely entertaining. This may be the only pure comedy documentary film that has ever been made in filmmaking history. That’s a major undertaking to purposefully attempt a popcorn movie with the documentary platform as your vehicle. Not many, if any docs, get laugh out loud moments.
This film pulls it off.
The directors follow a series of subjects as they navigate the life of a celebrity impersonator. In some cases, art and life get intertwined. We have a Obama impersonator who dabbles with putting his foot into the real political world, a George Bush impersonator who uses his platform to become a real life motivation speaking, and an ex- high school principal who’s been married for half a century get seduced into the world of Hugh Hefner, to name a few.
The film, like most of its subjects, doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you have a little bit of interest in this world, this film is a good introduction to what it’s like and what the people who make it up, face looking like someone famous.
Get some popcorn and soda. Grab a spot on the couch and laugh your ass off.
