I am a 47 year old woman with a physical disability. I was a Registered Nurse in my 20s and became a stay at home, home-schooling mother in 2009. My youngest just graduated and I'm back out into the world again, looking for my purpose.
My problem, however, is that I have almost no employment history for the last 18 years. I am no longer registered as a nurse and my disability limits my working capacity. I live in a small town in Northern Michigan, and remote work is my best option, though I'm having trouble with scammers and people that want you to pay to apply for a job.
I believe I have a very good skill set in communication, sales, planning and organizing, as well as writing and editing, though I have very little formal documentation to prove it. Most of my work has been various free lance jobs that have been few and far between. My most recent was doing audio book editing for a published author.
Being back in the workforce is overwhelming. Technology is off the charts compared to when I worked before. Is there anyone else in this situation? How are you handling it? If you have been successful in this department, do you have any advice?
