The moment came on Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri asked Blanche a pointed question about Smith. Hawley wanted to know if Blanche had thought about starting an investigation into Smith for perjury. Blanche answered clearly. He said the Justice Department takes testimony given before Congress very seriously. He then confirmed with a simple yes that he had considered such a step.
