Hurricane Isaias Reaches Category 3 as Gulf Crews Leave and Oil Wells Shut In

Isaias is a Category 3 hurricane with 120 mile per hour winds, the first of the 2026 season, headed for the Florida Panhandle tonight. "Get out NOW" is for the counties that already ordered people out, not a free pass to ignore the map. Escambia zones A and B, Santa Rosa, and coastal Okaloosa are the mandatory areas. Everyone else is not under that order.

The 63 percent oil figure is Thursday's Gulf shut in, about 1.28 million barrels a day. Friday's count was higher, about 72 percent. That is offshore Gulf oil, roughly 15 percent of United States crude, not the whole country. Crews left and wells closed on purpose so platforms would not take a hit with people still on them. Damage is not known yet.

If your zone was ordered out, leave before the bridges close. If it was not, do not pretend the headline covers you.
