Commodification, homogenization, commercialisation, is the death of the creative arts.
Human beings have existed in our current form for an estimated 300,000 years. For all that time, and indeed even further back with our ancestors, we have been using art to inform us of our thoughts, feelings, our histories, and our very nature. It is through art that we have been able to know the unknowable and face the unfaceable. And now in this time of technology and money we are collectively using the arts only as a means to 'generate revenue'. For an artist to be compensated is not wrong, but for an industry to use art to deceive is cultural poison. And for that the human condition is suffocating. How many of us feel a spiritual emptiness? How man of us have fallen into disillusionment and depression? How many will we sacrifice for trinkets offered by those who would take your dreams in exchange for saccharine banalities?
