This follows a law the Knesset passed in March 2026. The measure requires military courts to impose the death penalty as the default sentence for certain terror attacks that kill Israelis. Executions are to occur by hanging within 90 days of sentencing unless special circumstances allow life in prison.
The law operates through the military court system that mainly handles cases involving Palestinians from the West Bank. Jewish Israelis charged with similar crimes face civilian courts where the death penalty does not apply in the same automatic way.
