For those of you who say THERE ARE NO GOOD COPS because they won't speak out against BAD COPS, therefore ALL COPS ARE BAD.
>>> "TAKE IT BACK!" I'll tell you why. <<<
As a retired reporter, I've been exposed to many bad cops. I've also met the "good cops." In my opinion, when I worked in Pahrump, I was exposed to several bad officers and higher ups (management). But I also experienced a bulk of "good cops" who warned me and watched out for me over the years.
Today, I have three nephews who are police officers in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada. They are good men, family men who want a lawful and free democracy, and good big city cops. In past years, I spoke to one of them quite a bit about "bad cops vs good cops" and "one bad apple spoils the bunch" and "when good cops look away, they're just as bad."
Again, I recommend: >>> "TAKE IT BACK!" I'll tell you why. <<<
My nephew listened to many of my "bad cop" experiences and heard my conplain that the "good cops" look away and don't get rid of them, so people say, that makes them just as bad! His response was the best I've learned. He said, When police groups have commanders, management or supervisors who are "bad" and those bad officers may hire, excuse or encourage officers who use excessive force, are racist, narcissists or ego-driven and these behaviors are hard to correct or eliminate. If street officers ("good cops") complain about it or report other bad officers, many small or false infractions can be implemented against the good cops and they may be fired.
So, what's the solution?
My officer nephew says: If the "good cops" get fired, all you have left is "bad cops," and I want to hope my family and friends experience "good cops" when stopped or detained. If all the "good cops" quit or get fired, civilians don't have much chance of getting a "good cop" or fighting back or finding justice. So, if we want to level justice, we try to be the best cops, toe the line, listen to you, help and serve in any capacity we can with hopes of balancing the field. We know who the "bad cops" are, and we work on the inside to get rid of them. We subtly block bad behavior when we can. We send anonymous reports of inner corruption up the tree. We submit our truthful reports of events as quick as possible, so lies or contradictions come afterwards. There are many actions we can contribute that work toward getting rid of the bad officers, and hopefully bad upper management.
So, please, do not say THERE ARE NO GOOD COPS, but rather, look hard at the situation and try to find and speak with the "good cop" among them, express your support of them, ask for help, because you know some of us among the "bad" are actually GOOD!
