I've been thinking about how much better the Westminster system is where the leader of the government is chosen from amongst the elect representatives and the head of state is ceremonial.

If Australia had elected a leader that did as much much damage to the economy and reputation of Australia as the US is doing to itself right now the parliament would have the ability to remove that leader.

Every time a change of leader happens in Australia, the media makes it out to be bad and undemocratic, but actually it is a decent check on the power of autocratic and incompetent leaders.
