15 Questions that Address Reasons
America is sitting on enormous oil reserves, Texas is pumping millions of barrels a day, and the United States is producing more crude oil than any other country, yet Americans are still paying prices at the pump that make everyday life harder.
The public is told that global markets, refinery costs, foreign conflicts and taxes explain the bill, and those factors are real, but they do not excuse the need for accountability. Energy companies operate to maximize profits, not to guarantee affordable fuel for American families, and when overseas buyers offer competitive prices, domestic consumers do not automatically get priority.
Meanwhile, politicians promise energy independence without always explaining why producing more oil does not translate into cheaper gasoline. The hard truth is that having the oil is not the same as controlling the price, and $1 gasoline is not a realistic promise without extraordinary conditions, major cost reductions or government subsidies.
But Americans have every right to demand transparency about refinery margins, taxes, export policies, competition and the decisions that shape what they pay.
If America has the resources, infrastructure and production capacity to be an energy powerhouse, then the public deserves a serious explanation of why that advantage does not deliver more affordable fuel, and which policies would actually make a difference.
