In 2016 the nascent Sanhedrin in Jerusalem wrote to Trump right after his election. The letter asked him and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to act like Cyrus. Cyrus allowed Jews to return from exile and rebuild the Temple over 2500 years ago. The Sanhedrin said the political conditions were unique because both leaders backed Jewish rights to Jerusalem. They urged joint action to advance the Temple project for the benefit of all people.
