Hello from Denver, CO. I am a trained philosopher that is interested into bilingualism and how our minds, moods and overall disposition changes with the language that we speak. For example, a language is an intricate part of a culture, and that form of speech will dictate the mood and disposition of the people that speaks said language. For example, Spanish speaking people (Puerto Ricans) when communicating amongst themselves tend to be loud, fast talkers, and expressive by using hand and eye gestures that convey messages that only the other participant of that conversation understands. That same group of people (Puerto Ricans) when speaking English for example, find themselves communicating in an almost submissive manner because the English language does not lend itself to allow the better of them to shine, and enjoy themselves while they are conversing in the second language. I am referring to Puerto Ricans because we are US citizens by birthright and we tend to treat the English language as a second language rather than our official language. How do you find my interest in bilingualism, and how the mind works to make it happen? I will appreciate your opinions.
