Identity politics is a natural consequence of inequalities of opportunity yielding inequalities of outcome. Identity-blindness would be great if identity-blindness was actually blind. But we know it is not and can see clearly that it is not.
To actually improve the system, we should direct our focus not on the outcomes of the system, but on the inputs. If we want more women engineers, then we should make funding available to organizations and programs that inspire girls to study engineering.
If we created a true equality of opportunity, then the inequities would sort themselves out over time.
