Navigating community, relationships, or anything really that’s complex and has many different perceptions of the object is really hard.
But dead things like money essentially have one perception. Most people, deep down, have the perception that more money == good, less money == bad.
Because everyone shares one perception, it’s much easier to optimize for this one thing.
You could also think of something like Reddit where upvote == good, downvote == bad.
This is terrible on a civilization level though because we then optimize for this one easy, simplisitic metric that doesn’t handle complexity and isn’t reflective of actual living life. But to navigate the complexity especially at scale is much harder like trying to handle a village vs multi-family vs one family vs one individual.
