Community living
I'm in the process of building a neighborhood community in Asheville. It will be the first time I've lived with so many people - likely 20-30 - and had some choice over the members. Something I'm contemplating is: what sort of personality traits and communication skills should I sort for? I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts. What traits make someone good to live with in community?
Here are some my group has come up with thus far:
- Respectful / considerate- of others’ space
- Thoughtful and flexible- Take in other views, consider others’ ideas, negotiate
- Self-aware- Admit when you’re wrong
- Chill/ Resilient- Take things in stride, sense of humor, patient
- Brave- Lean into honesty and difficult conversations
- Contributory- Show up with time, money, and attention
