Everyone is a fisherman, just nobody knows anything about fish...
It's funny how many people claim to be fishermen especially with social media these days all you have to do is take a couple pictures with some fish more often than most people in boom you're considered basically unsponsored professional fisherman and sometimes sponsored. But what do people know about the biology of fish the reasons for the variables and the why's? Do people know anything more then just what they've done habitually in the past and do they know why any of that worked in the first place? Does anybody understand water in a molecular level or the reason why it interacts with surroundings and it's drainage basin as well as it does or as bad as it does and what is the geology of its strange basin offer to the chemistry of water and the whole psychology and physiology of the biology inside the water itself? Is it only me that cares about this stuff? Is it only me that does everything takes every note and makes every experience a scientific discovery every time I'm fishing or is everybody else doing the same thing because the one thing I know is that first of all people don't like fishing with people who know it all even if they don't act like it which is the first narrative I'd love to change about the quote unquote fisherman. If I were to have a platform as a fisherman as I'm going to consider myself a fisherman professional wise for what I know I've been doing it for 17 years almost every single day and it's not the repetition and the attempts it's about the knowledge gained and the experience had. I like to talk about things that a lot of people don't understand or know and things that aren't opinion from my mind although a lot of them are since fish and freshwater fish especially in my state of Minnesota are pretty decently studied but 100% not to the fullest whatsoever especially compared to like marine biology. To give myself a little bit of credibility on what I like to discuss is when you thinking about it what you need is a fisherman to fish well and if you're thinking you're going to need electronics, a nice Pole, nice lures, tackle box, nice boat exedra if you think this is necessity and you care about fishing or want to start or want to keep involving as efficient I think we should discuss and we should take time to listen to a couple things that I know will change your mind for a couple of reasons because the last thing you need is any of that in the first thing you need is bait a line to tie the hook with and a hook to tie in the line with and bait to bait the hook with everything else hearsay. The last thing I needed is the electronics the first thing in My generation needed by everybody is an electronic. Why would you need a fish finder on the information you have and the understanding of the species and water you have put together suggests especially if you're able to do a couple eye tests and chemistry tests at the lake the day you're going to fish sage the quick pH test temperature. If you had this knowledge you would unlock a knowing of information that fish can only be in certain areas of the water body and water column that's lays in front of you and can't be anywhere else because the overlapping temperature needed for the cold blooded bodies to be what they need along with the feed and food that they're eating and oxygen all three need to overlap and all three will never be in every single part of the water body or column ever always they will only be in certain spots depending on time of year weather conditions moon phase lake phase whether there's a winter in your area or not for the flip and turnover of the lake and pressure barometric pressure all these together which are very easily known put fish in only a couple spots at any given point the next variables you need to know is whether they're feeding or not and why. Then electronics start being a tool to make sure you know and are correct on how deep you actually are because doing it by hand sometimes can be off and like I use my vexilar r for which is just a sonar flasher. You get to know the bottom type and makeup whether it's weedy Sandy mukey or hard. But before I get too far and just keep rambling cuz I can about fishing and the limnology which is the study of fresh water non-moving usually meaning ponds bogs lakes marshes as well as freshwater biology of fishing in general is my passion I can ramble about it for days. But it's not something I go into with a closed mind it's not something I go into with old wise tails and do things that the blogs say to do as well as only do what I've been told I go in with an open mind and a predator I look at the lake as if I were to be on my last leg meeting food what would I do how would I bring food home to my family if I were a caveman this at least puts your mindset at ease when it comes to fishing you stop thinking about they could be anywhere they could be eating anything and you start thinking about no no they couldn't they're eating what's in the lake got to learn what's in the lake I got to learn when and why they eat and their habits just like you would learn anything above water on ground everything is relative the study you do as a hunter to deer into turkey and the reasons why they move and do the things they do is no different than a fish doesn't matter that there's a medium in between you and the fish that allow you not to see it. It just makes it more satisfying when you're correct ๐ค๐ผ but like I said before I keep rambling on if I'm going to leave anybody here quick with a couple points in case no one wants to come back and help with this conversation and they just want to leave with maybe a couple tips through random tidbits of helping them become a fisherman or just efficient in general because my platform has a fisherman is to change The narrative of a fisherman they're arrogant and they're hard to fish with and they shouldn't be they should be the helpers and the people you come to as well as my platform also wants to teach young or new fisherman and scrape away the ideals that they probably have thinking that they don't have enough items or knowledge to fish in general in the first place and that just needs to be understood of completely incorrect and I'm going to help you and I'm going to give you some tidbits that nobody I promise out of everybody I've ever fished with or around every new until I taught him so I can guarantee you that this information is going to make you more intelligent than at least 80% of all fishermen out there at any given moment. Number one talking freshwater fish not marine by the way nothing Marine in this conversation but number one Fisher color blind depends on the spectrum but usually part of it not only that but if you understand water and refraction there's certain wavelengths of light that can't reach certain depths anyways and if you understand light, shitty water, refraction and reflection of light as well as soak up of light amongst organic particles you'll learn that reds and the Red spectrum does not reach that far into the lake yellows and greens decently green more than yellow obviously purples and blues reach very well to the bottom now in concept a surface fish doesn't see blue very well and a bottom fish doesn't see red or need to so your walleye are going to be more keen into green that's why chartreuse is the most popular color in general for fish lures it's a green yellow color but while they're going to see that really well all the way up to Blue and reds are going to look like a gray while a sunfish or a bath we'll see reds and greens really well at the same time they're not site predators whether or not they are predators or their prey almost all fish have eyes on their side the northerns and the other predators obviously face a little more forward but still to their side their main sense is their lateral line which is part of their nervous system and it is a bone that picks up sonar and sound. So yes every fish can feel and tell if you're using electronic un popular by belief for some reason but very true and then they use taste which is also their smell mixed into one water rushing over there tongue and gills give them both of these senses this is why if anyone ever has fish before if you've ever gone trolling from northern there's been a moment where you've had a hit and miss or so you thought it was a mess what happened was is on the way to that lure that Northern was tasting every bit of it and once it got to it it tapped it where it spit it out right away in the split second and this is very true this isn't just a theory. Some color blindness and color sensing in fish and species of fish along with temperature is very important and then add this to your arsenal of knowledge and you'll be equipped to be a beneficial in the 80% people out there.. .. fish are almost predominantly nocturnal hunters. Almost every fish has a reflective eye you'll eat throughout the day but if you ever notice it's slow or opportunistic feeding because that's what they are as opportunistic feeders and it's not like they have an 8 hour sleep schedule like humans they actually don't sleep but they do they're just part of their bodies are always awake and they don't blink they need to be aware of surroundings it's not like they have a bed. That's why I slack water is important all lakes and All Rivers have a current hot water rises cold water sinks when it's on ice it does the opposite and the same at the same time no matter what there's always an up dwell and it down dwell and these create currents and eddies and that's where you're going to find your face along these streams it'll be facing into it allowing food to come to them so don't just go and find spots that you think on the lake map looks good try to understand the water take yourself in their boat one day without a motor running and allow yourself to drift do it a couple times and you'll start to realize the lakes natural current.ย
