UpTrust SMS Notifications & Consent

Effective Date: May 10, 2026. Updated October 25, 2026.

This page describes how SMS (text message) notifications work on UpTrust: what we send, how you opt in, how to stop or get help, and the limits and costs that apply. By adding a phone number to your UpTrust account and verifying it, or by entering one to receive a sign-in or RSVP code, you agree to the terms on this page.

What we send

UpTrust sends one-way messages about your account, or about an event a host has invited you to. We do not send marketing, promotional, or solicitation messages. The categories of messages we may send include:

  • One-time verification codes, when you add or verify a phone number
  • RSVP and sign-in codes, when you RSVP or sign in with your phone number
  • Notifications of activity directed at you: replies to your posts, mentions, reactions, direct messages, bridge requests, and group invites
  • Event RSVPs, reminders, and updates about events you RSVP'd to, for events you have opted into
  • Security alerts (e.g. an attempt to add your number to a different account)
  • An event invitation, when a host enters your number to invite you to their event. It names the host, links to the event, and ends "Reply STOP to opt out". The host can resend it; nothing else is texted to that number unless you give it to us yourself, in Settings or when you RSVP or sign in, and after you reply STOP no host's invitation is sent to it.

How you opt in

Apart from a host's event invitation (above), UpTrust texts only a number you have given us yourself. You opt in by entering your phone number on one of the surfaces below and agreeing to the disclosure shown there. There are four opt-in surfaces:

  1. Account settings on the web (signed in). Navigate to Settings → Phone Number → "Add Phone". Enter your phone number, receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS, and enter the code to confirm. Verification confirms both ownership of the number and consent to receive notifications.
  2. Account settings in the UpTrust mobile app (signed in). Open Settings → Phone → "Add phone number". Enter your phone number, receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS, and enter the code to confirm. The app shows the same disclosure and the same three links as the website before you send the number, and verification confirms the same two things.
  3. Event RSVP (publicly accessible per event). After you RSVP to a public event, enter your phone number to opt in to text updates for that event. This opts you in to event-related SMS only. Create an account to verify your number via one-time code and to manage SMS for other notification types in Settings.
  4. RSVP or sign in by phone (web). On an event page, choose an answer, enter your name and mobile number, and tap "Text me a code"; or choose "Use my phone instead" on the sign-in page. We text a one-time code, and entering it RSVPs you and creates your free UpTrust account, or signs you in to it. This sends the code only; it does not turn on other SMS notifications, which stay off until you turn them on in Settings (the one exception is a security alert if someone tries to add your number to another account). The RSVP step reads: "By confirming, you agree that you're 18 or older, and you'll get a free UpTrust account to keep track of your RSVPs. Terms & Privacy." The sign-in page reads: "By continuing, you agree that you're 18 or older. Terms & Privacy." (the sign-up sheet on the home and join pages words it "By continuing, you confirm you're 18 or older and agree to our Terms and Privacy policy."). All of them then read, under the "Text me a code" button and before the code is sent:
By entering your number, you agree to receive a one-time sign-in code by SMS from UpTrust, one message per request. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. SMS terms

Before you submit your number, the opt-in surface shows a short consent disclosure with links to this page, our Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use. The account-settings surfaces on the web and in the mobile app both read:

By adding your phone number, you agree to receive account notifications from UpTrust at this number, including a verification code. Message frequency varies based on your activity. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy, Terms, and SMS Consent.

Sample messages you may receive

  • Verification: "Your Uptrust verification code is: 482193. It expires in 10 minutes. Reply STOP to opt out."
  • RSVP or sign-in code: "Your UpTrust code is 482193. Don't share it with anyone. @uptrusting.com #482193"
  • Reply notification: "alex replied to your post on Uptrust https://uptrusting.com/p/abc123"
  • Direct message: "alex sent you a message on Uptrust https://uptrusting.com/dm/abc123"
  • Event invite from a host who entered your number: "UpTrust: alex invited you to an event https://uptrusting.com/event-invite/3f6c2a90-... Reply STOP to opt out"
  • Batched notifications: "3 new notifications on Uptrust. View them at: https://uptrusting.com/inbox"

Stopping messages and getting help

You can stop messages at any time by:

  • Replying STOP to any UpTrust SMS. You will receive one final confirmation message and no further SMS from UpTrust, including sign-in codes and hosts' event invitations. Reply START to get texts again. If we tried to text you while you were opted out, hosts' invitations stay off until you enter a code we text you, when you sign in, RSVP by phone, or verify your number in Settings.
  • Removing your phone number under Settings → Phone Number → "Remove" (not possible while the number is your only way to sign in), or disabling SMS for a notification type under Settings → Notifications. In the mobile app, the same two controls are Settings → Phone → "Remove this number" and Settings → Notifications → SMS.

For help, reply HELP to any UpTrust SMS or email support@uptrusting.com.

Frequency and rates

Message frequency depends on your activity and the activity directed at you. Most users receive between 0 and 10 messages per day; UpTrust enforces a per-user daily cap to prevent runaway batches. Messages are batched when multiple notifications arrive in a short window. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply; UpTrust does not charge for SMS.

Carriers and sharing

SMS is delivered via Twilio, a third-party messaging provider. Phone numbers and message content are processed by Twilio solely to deliver your messages. We do not sell phone numbers or share them with marketers. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and SMS opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party except Twilio, which delivers the messages for us. See our Privacy Policy for details on data handling.
