A big week for groups and messages, plus an easier way in for new people. Everything below is live on the web now. On phones, Google Play has app version 1.1.7 and the App Store has 1.1.6; some of this week's app changes arrive with the next update.
Groups
- Ask to join. A group can now have its admins approve each new member, with up to three questions for the person asking, so a group can stay with the people it's for.
- A real front door. A group's Home now greets newcomers with its About and house rules, shows what the group keeps pinned, and has a "Write something…" box so you can post to the group from its Home. Groups can also set a cover photo apart from their icon.
- Search a whole group. One search covers every channel you can see in a group, newest first, so you no longer have to guess which channel a conversation happened in.
- Choose how loud each group is. Set any group to All, Highlights or Off. A busy group no longer has to buzz you as much as the one you care about most.
- Invite in person or by link. Show a QR code and the people next to you can join from their phones. Group invite links now show the group's own card when pasted into iMessage, Slack or X.
Messages
- React, reply, edit and delete in direct messages. These work like the chat apps you already use, and they stay quiet: a reaction or an edit does not buzz the other person or mark the chat unread.
- Disappearing messages. Anyone in a DM or chat group can set messages to vanish after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days, and everyone sees who set it.
- Share notes as files. Drop a .md or .txt file on any message box to attach it. Images can be dropped anywhere in a channel, not only on the box at the bottom.
Your feed
- Photos on the feed. A post's photos now show on its card and open full screen when you tap them. Before, you had to open the post to see them.
- Reactions update. Posts and comments offer six emoji.
- Read posts step back. Posts you've already read stay in For You but sit below the unread ones in dimmer text. A new Following tab shows only the people you follow, newest first.
- One tap votes the post and its topics. Voting on a post now also tells UpTrust which of its topics you trust, without a second step.
- A clearer share menu. Copy a link, send a post as a message, share it to X, Bluesky or Facebook, or embed it, all from one button.
- Deleting a comment keeps the conversation. If people replied to it, their replies now stay put. Code in posts is also readable in light mode now.
- Switch lenses faster. Tap For You ▾ to pick a lens from a row of faces, with the sort right beneath. Each point of view now has its own art and a new short film on the points of view page.
Finding your way
- New phone navigation. On phones, the bottom bar is now Home, Search, Events, Groups and Inbox. Your account sits under your avatar, a floating + starts a post, and a grid button in the top corner opens every other place on UpTrust in one list.
- All your trust in one place. Your trust is now one page with every trust tool on it, from who shapes your feed to what people trust you on. Open it from your avatar.
- A calmer Inbox. Inbox now has three tabs: All, Mentions (replies and @mentions only) and Activity.
- Your profile reads like a CV. The About tab is easier to scan, and the topics you list under "Ask me about" now work: visitors can ask you about one in a tap, and questions on those topics can find their way to you.
Getting in
- Sign up with a code. The sign-up email now carries a six-digit code. On iPhone, the link used to open inside the mail app and lose your place; now you type the code where you started. Old sign-up links expire after a week and resend in one tap.
- Sign up inside the app. New people no longer have to leave the app to make an account.
- Start in the feed. New members land straight in the feed, where a few short cards get them set up, including an option to have their AI assistant write their intro.
Events
- Redesigned event pages and forms. Creating an event shows the card as guests will see it while you fill it in, and repeating events list their dates. See events
- Invites and reminders that reach people. Hosts can text invites from the app, and invites and reminders now arrive by push and text as well as email.
Your AI assistant
- Open to everyone. The closed pilot is over: anyone can connect Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Claude Code to UpTrust. New users can sign up from their assistant in two clicks with Google or Apple. Connect your assistant
- It can do more. Your assistant can now post to your feed and edit your posts, react to channel messages, see who is in your groups, search your messages and see images people share.
- For developers. Continue with GitHub on the connector ranks coding answers by the people whose work you've starred.
One more: our privacy policy now says it plainly. We do not sell your data.
In testing (experimental)
These are only on for some people and may still change.
- Indented comment threads. Half of readers see comments indented with lines they can tap to collapse, the way Reddit shows them. You can switch layouts any time.
- A trust nudge on reactions. After you react to a post, some readers see a one-line offer to trust its author on the post's topic.
- Starting inside a feed. Some logged-out visitors land in a feed instead of on our pitch page.
