Hey y'all!
This week Oracle said in its official SEC filing it replaced 21,000 jobs with AI. And last month Pope Leo XIV delivered his first encyclical arguing that the real danger of is that we start treating people, including ourselves, as products to be optimized and upgraded.
Many ways in, here are a few:
- Is technology ever really neutral, or does it always carry its makers' values?
- Where do you already see people being treated as things to optimize?
- The cardinal who presented the encyclical gave humanity's proof as a list — Guernica, Beethoven's Ninth, MLK, Mandela, and the unnamed people who quietly do right at a cost. What's on yours?
- If you use AI to answert this, does that undercut your argument, support you, or something else?

Lots of love, and see (some of) you soon
