Life of Chuck

New to philosophy

I saw Life of Chuck with a couple friends a few days ago.

They reference Carl Sagan-

“We are latecomers. We live in the last moments of the Cosmic Calendar. The history of the universe is immense, almost beyond comprehension. Events that we think of as ancient, like the first dinosaurs, occurred only yesterday on the Cosmic Calendar. Human history occupies only the last few seconds of the last minute of December 31.”

  • The Big Bang occurs at midnight, January 1.
  • The Milky Way forms in May.
  • Earth forms in early September.
  • Life begins in late September.
  • Dinosaurs appear on December 24 and go extinct on December 30.
  • All of recorded human history occurs in the last 10 seconds before midnight on December 31.

In an experience of awe to consider how miraculous it is that we’re all here right now together. The chances are so small.
