AMA with Tim Urban. Wednesday, 3/4 at 2:00 PM CT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJqtVCgxXTE

Post questions you're curious about here, and continuously during the conversation. One orienting big question: How do you keep thinking clearly when everything around you rewards thinking tribally — and can technology actually help, or does it only make it worse?

Tim Urban is the writer behind Wait But Why, one of the most popular blogs on the internet, known for making complex topics (AI, procrastination, the Fermi Paradox, the future of humanity) accessible and deeply engaging. His book "What's Our Problem?" examines how the decline in collective thinking quality threatens democratic society. He's currently deep in a new long-form writing project exploring the full arc of everything.

what did you end up thinking about it? Any new ideas or thoughts or questions come up as a result?

AMA with John Mackey. Wednesday, 2/11 at 2:00 PM CT

We’re here to talk about A Course in Miracles, and The Disappearance of the Universe, and how we can help each other home with the practices of true forgiveness.

John Mackey is well known as the co-founder of Whole Foods (and CEO for 44 years), innovator in Conscious Capitalism (including creating billion dollar company while changing food systems for the better, implementing executive salary caps, radical health care and employee wellness programs, etc,) and most recently founder of Love.life - a cutting edge medicine, nutrition, fitness, center w/ pickleball, cafe.

Diversity, a matter of Perception? . I am a White Latina and Retired Educator. I’ve been living in the Midwest since 2015. Moving here, i witnessed prejudice for the very first time, as well as ignorance and isolationism. I am sbig promoter of Diversity. How do you feel about Diversity in your community?

    Quick reflections on vibe-coding:

    • kicks up weird addiction cycles in me
    • the end product feels more like 20-30% jordan's creation and 70-80% LLM's. The text for example is all a little off, the style, etc, and it drifts because it's so easy to have it do it and so much more "time consuming" to go fix all the little bits (plus you have no guarantee it wont fuck something else up) and keep them coherent, versus just surrendering to the llm
    • As a result I feel weirdly not that autonomous... like is the LLM working for me or am I working for it? This feels similar to the addiction cycle too
    • There's a vibe that's similar to the "HR Lady" tone and em-dash hell of the LLM writing; like everything is sanitized and optimized for general professional sleeze marketing and you can't quite put your finger on why it sucks. The glassmorphism designs and gradients feel similar
    • I continue to feel like I'm learning a lot from it, but I have updated to think that at the current stage its at, its actually an unhealthy practice and so is a little like a blood sacrifice that should be used sparingly. I imagine this will change, but maybe it'll get worse.
    jordanSA•...

Thanks, I found this helpful. I also am curious to keep checking in to how your views evolve as the practice and tools evolve

I’m thinking about communities that might vibe with UpTrust — groups of people who feel like existing platforms don’t quite work for them, or who are actively looking for something better.

Maybe they’re academic groups, or small think-tanks, or even informal circles where sharing perspective is part of how they connect.

A couple questions I’d love your thoughts on:
    – What kinds of groups or communities come to mind? Whether or not you’re connected to them, who do you think UpTrust is for?
    – Are you part of — or close to — any communities like this? If so, I’d love to hear more.

Appreciate any reflections, names, hunches, or breadcrumbs 🍞

    Request for feedback, podcast #2

This one I recorded once, but felt I went way too much into the details so I reached out for another take. As a result I think I'm much more to the point and accessible, but problematically take forever to get to explaing what UpTrust actually is....

Led a Huachuma Circle yesterday for my birthday. Yesterday I had a 9-hour birthday party together with my friend K who is a plant medicine facilitator. This is our second foray into altered-states facilitation, and once again we proved correct the thesis that group trips and Relatefulness are a great combo.

It’s hard to pin down what exactly the Huachuma was doing, but it led to a circle that was beautifully stably multi-threaded. There were 4 or 5 threads, and people were very confident staying in theirs, paying attention to the thing they were with, and the people they were with. At times there were multiple people crying, each in their own thing, each with other people attuning to them. The threads would recur as wanted, without anyone needing to direct the flow, channel to streams to be more rational, or more held.

At one point K said We can have multiple threads at the same time, and I told him, I think you said that for yourself. They all already got it.

That’s great! how was it received?

Can someone actually have any Teal if they score 0% Orange, Amber, Red, and Magenta? Going through the scores of the Better Political Conversations quiz is fascinating. (reference: https://www.guidedtrack.com/programs/we0q1pq/run)

Now, this very well could have been someone running an experiment to test the scoring, or to try to get a sense of a friend or family member, but they did give a name where a lot of people leave that blank.

    Their scores are:
    Teal 55%
    Green 45%
    Orange 0%
    Amber 0%
    Red 0%
    Magenta 0%

Is it at all possible that someone could select every single response at Orange, Amber, Red, and Magenta as False, wrong, or just doesn’t make sense and have any actual Teal?

Also interesting, I got an email from someone who thinks of himself as primarily Orange, but was surprised that his quiz results came out 0% Orange. He referenced his Meyers-Briggs results as a reference in support. Utterly fascinated, I’ve asked him to let me know what correlation he sees between the Integral levels and Meyers-Briggs, and I’ve asked him what statements at Orange would have had his quiz results come out accurate for him.

Each time I make a significant edit in the content of the project I make a note of the change in the google sheet where I’m keeping track of scores. Here are the averages of the currently 75 scores:

    Amber 26%
    Green 25%
    Teal 21%
    Red 12%
    Orange 11%
    Magenta 5%

One blatant pattern I’m seeing is that high Green scores ALWAYS pair with a high score in Amber, and that people who have that pairing always score exceedingly low in Red and quite low in Orange.

Atisha's Pith Instructions. So this is my first post on Uptrust. Good to be here!

I have been inspired by this teaching from Atisha (a master who taught in India & Tibet over a thousand years ago) but I wasn’t fully satisfied with any translation. So today I compared 6 different translations and made this version that resonates for me…

    1. The highest learning is to realize the truth of no-self.
    2. The highest discipline is taming one’s own mindstream.
    3. The highest quality is the wish to benefit all beings.
    4. The highest instruction is constant awareness of the mind.
    5. The highest medicine is recognizing the inherent emptiness and non-separation of phenomena.
    6. The highest activity is not conforming with worldly ways and concerns.
    7. The highest magic is the transmutation of passions and delusions.
    8. The highest generosity is non-attachment.
    9. The highest goodness is a calm and peaceful mind.
    10. The highest patience is to uphold humility in all circumstances.
    11. The highest effort is to release attachment to results and outcomes.
    12. The highest meditation is no-mind, letting go of all concepts, pretension and contrivance.
    13. The highest wisdom is non-fixation, seeing through all appearances and identifications.
    14. The highest spiritual teacher is one who points out our flaws and tells us to avoid them.
    15. The highest precept is that which strikes at our own shortcomings.
    16. The highest friends are mindfulness and introspection.
    17. The highest motivating factors are our enemies, obstacles, illnesses, and sufferings.
    18. The highest skilful means is to be free of quarrels and apprehensions.
    19. The highest benefit for others is to inspire them to engage in Dharma practice.
    20. The highest benefit for oneself is to direct one’s attention to Dharma - the nature of things.

Current Session "instructions" (Feb 26): Converse, and see if nudges happen. nudges

We launched a system where the AI bots can automatically detect intervention points. We need you to make a bunch of comments and new posts to see if they'll engage. So this week we're asking you to engage a bunch, if you can!

It's a little rudimentary at the moment so sometimes you'll get multiple bots responding on multiple posts. We'd love your feedback on which ones you like, don't, when it seemed to miss the spot, anything else you notice.

    Thanks and love yall

Do I post too much here? . I like to keep it active, respond to everyone’s comments, etc, but I get nervous that I’m too dominate on the platform. How is it for y’all? And if you could just turn a knob to increase or decrease the Jordan-post-flow, would you adjust it in any direction? Or maybe there are other important frames you want to speak to that this doesn’t address?

    jordanSA•...
