This week at UpTrust (Oct 14)

Trust got more specific this week. Every uptrust now names a topic, and you can now trust someone on one topic by highlighting their words. Profiles, Topics and Events were redesigned.

Trust, topic by topic

  • "Vouch" got renamed bc there are too many new concepts here :). You Uptrust or Downtrust a person, the same words you use on a post. Wherever the site says one person trusts another, it now says on which topics, as in "alice uptrusted you on housing".
  • On someone's Trust tab, or in Manage Trust, you can raise or lower your trust in them one topic at a time, add a topic, or undo. Before, you could only take back trust in the whole person.
  • Manage Trust used to say "no trust" while the sidebar listed topics. It now shows both your uptrusts and the topics your activity already counts toward.
  • On the website, highlight words in someone's post or comment and pick Uptrust or Downtrust to trust the author on that topic, without voting on the whole post. Only you see the passages you marked.

Profiles

  • Profiles got a refresh: Mirror rings around the photo, the person's topics, and a "Trusted by" line naming people you trust who trust them. One Activity tab holds posts and replies, and empty tabs no longer show.
  • Your own Mirror rings are back on your own profile, with a note saying whether visitors see them too.

Topics, your feed and AI voters

  • The Topics page opens on what is busy this week among people you trust, then the topics you follow, then every topic grouped by neighborhood.
  • Your feed gives more room to the people and topics you follow.
  • Explore tells you how many unread posts are waiting from people you trust.
  • Where the AI voters split publishes every week again, after stalling in August. The biggest split leads, with each side's voters, so the page reads at a glance.
  • Which archetype trusts you shows where you rank among the people each AI voter trusts, and each AI voter's page says what it thinks of you.
  • Your field shows communities that are starting to form, graded by how far along they are and marked preliminary. It used to say the field was flat.

Events and groups

  • The Events page puts your next event up top, shows cover photos for events open to you, and says who is going: "Maya, Jon and 12 others".
  • Hosts who text their guests get a daily text allowance that grows as guests say yes and as members uptrust them, and shrinks when guests report the texts. You can see yours on Spam guard. Guests who RSVP without an account confirm through an emailed link.
  • Drag or paste images into a group message, like Slack.
  • Your own message no longer marks a channel unread, and opening a channel clears its badges right away instead of a few seconds later.
  • The Groups page appears the moment you click it and loads faster.

Notifications and email

  • The Inbox is now the notification list. The combined view is gone.
  • Opening a channel, a thread or a post marks its notifications read, so the bell drops once you have seen something.
  • Several messages in a row from the same person give you one push, not one per message.
  • To mention someone, pick them from the list that opens when you type @; notifications are correctly synched now.
  • Refined settings: Choose a daily, weekly or no email digest in Settings. Readers in the Americas used to get a weekly digest covering only a few hours. It now covers the whole week.
  • Reply emails name the thread and say "Photo" for a photo reply, where they used to show an empty quote. Every email ends with one line of unsubscribe links.

Writing

  • In the post editor, images land where your cursor is. A pasted link becomes a link in place, and pasting one over selected words links those words.
  • A post with no image of its own uses the first image in its body for its card and share preview.
  • Message boxes on the website grow with what you type.
  • On a phone, comments use the full width of the screen, and a reply shows "Replying to" the person above the box.
  • Asking the AI in a thread no longer fails when the model is slow. The answer shows up when it is ready.

Signing up and signing in

  • After you sign up, the page tells you to check your email and what comes next, instead of showing the same form again. Members who follow one of our ads go straight in.
  • Creating an account needs the link we email you, so nobody can register your address before you do.
  • When sign-in fails, the app and the site say why without giving away whether or not that email is in the account.
  • Posts shared on Facebook sometimes failed to open. They open now.

Assistants

  • An assistant you have connected to UpTrust can now, if you allow it, list your groups and channels with their unread counts, read a channel and the replies under a message, reply in a thread, and edit or delete messages you wrote. When it types an @name, that person gets a real mention.

The app

Version 1.1.4 is on Google Play, with full-screen zoom for any image you tap and the rounded message boxes from the website. Version 1.1.5 is with testers on TestFlight and Google Play's internal track. It brings this week's trust and profile changes to the app, along with the new Topics screen, the digest choice, and a comment box you can send from the keyboard and swipe away. On Android, tapping a notification opens that notification, where it sometimes opened an old one. iPhone users go from 1.1.1 straight to 1.1.5 once it passes App Store review.
