I want to add, I see why celebrations can feel like betrayal when people are dying from drugs and homelessness. That moral anguish is valid to me. As hard as it is to believe, it isn't a housing problem. Im not saying that in general we don't have a housing problem, but that has very little to do with why people are homeless.... Usually addictions occur because we are not comfortable with our environment so we want to change it. We are not comfortable with our environment because we are not fully in touch with the present.... I suppose in nearly every instance of life there is the potential for the formation of addiction. Whether it be drugs, video games, alcohol, porn, sugar, gambling, tobacco etc..... - gayle...
I used a lot of drugs when I was in my twenties. (I am 71.) Meth was my drug of choice. I quickly realized it was going to kill me if I didn't stop. When my hair dresser said I was losing a lot of hair I quit cold turkey and never touched Meth again.... There's clearly a benefit to society to do something about addiction. It's unavoidable in a society that isn't completely laissez-faire and unsympathetic. Doing nothing allows so much harm to individuals and those around them, and ultimately to society at large.... My personal experiences with addiction have been painful and complicated. My mother, who is now deceased, was a pedophile. Later in life, my husband struggled with video game addiction, though he eventually recovered. Well, I struggled more than he did!... 8/31/25 Objectively this process is going great. Emotionally I'm starting to feel an edginess creep in. The edginess is the sensory equivalent of a nearby fire alarm blaring nonstop for 36 hours straight with no sign of stopping....
