Can you reply to that message for me?

Reply in a channel message's thread (this posts under the user's name) (reply_to_channel_message)

Your assistant posts a reply in a message’s thread, under your name, exactly as if you had typed it, and the people in the thread are notified. Replies carry text only.

Ask it like this

  • “Reply to Sam’s parking question: there is a lot behind the library.”
  • “Thank Priya in the thread under her post.”

When another tool fits better

Before you use it

  • It needs the Post for you permission, which UpTrust asks you to approve when you connect.
  • It writes to UpTrust, and part of what it does cannot be undone, such as notifications already sent or text it replaces. Its effects reach people or services beyond your own account.
  • In Claude, connect https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp. It is not on the ChatGPT address, https://mcp.uptrusting.com/chatgpt. How to connect.

What your assistant is told

Your assistant decides when to use this tool from the title and description UpTrust’s server gives it. Here they are exactly as the server sends them.

Tool name
reply_to_channel_message
Title
Reply in a channel message's thread (this posts under the user's name)
Description
Use this when the user asks you to reply to a specific message in one of their UpTrust group channels: it posts the reply in that message's thread, under the user's name, exactly as if they had typed it in the app. To start a new message in the channel, use post_to_channel instead. Pass the message's `messageId`, from post_to_channel, read_channel or an earlier reply's response, and `text`; a reply carries no images. A typed @username becomes a mention as in post_to_channel. The message must be in a channel the user can post to; otherwise, and for an id of nothing, the error says no such message. THIS IS A LOUD WRITE: reply only with what the user asked you to say, once. The response gives the reply's `replyId` (for edit_channel_message and delete_channel_message), links to the thread, lists who was mentioned, and carries a `speakable` line to relay.
