Some events cost money to attend. If a host sets a ticket price, guests pay through Stripe when they RSVP, and the money goes straight to the host's own Stripe account. UpTrust does not take a cut of ticket sales.
Where to find it: Hosts: turn on Take payments for this event when you create or edit an event, connect Stripe once from Settings, then set a price. Guests: just RSVP as usual, the price shows up right on the event page.
Setting up as a host
Every new event starts with payments off, so most events never mention Stripe at all. To charge for one, open the event form and turn on Take payments for this event. The ticket price, the refund settings and the Stripe prompt only appear once that is on. Turning it back off clears the price. If people have already paid for the event, refund them from the guest list first, otherwise the switch stays on.
Before you can charge for an event, connect a Stripe account. Open Settings, find the Stripe section, and click Connect with Stripe. Stripe will ask you a few questions about yourself or your business, it only takes a few minutes.
Once you are connected, a Ticket price field shows up under the payments toggle when you create or edit an event. Leave it blank to keep the event free.
How guests pay
When a guest taps Going on a paid event, they are sent to a secure Stripe Checkout page to pay. Their RSVP only saves once the payment goes through, so nobody loses a spot they already paid for.
Refunds
As the host, you can refund anyone at any time from your guest list. Find their name and click Refund.
Guests can also refund themselves, depending on the refund window you picked when you set the ticket price:
- Until the event starts (default). Guests can refund themselves any time before the event begins.
- Anytime. Guests can refund themselves even after the event has passed.
- Never. Guests can't refund themselves, only you can issue a refund.
If you cancel the event
Cancelling an event does not refund anyone by itself. If you turn on Refund everyone automatically if I cancel this event when you set the ticket price, every paid guest gets refunded the moment you cancel. Leave it off (the default) and you refund people yourself from the guest list.
Auto-refund works the same way whether you use Cancel event or delete the event permanently. The difference is who hears about it: cancelling lets guests know the event is off, and deleting permanently tells nobody. Either way the money goes back if you turned auto-refund on.
If auto-refund is off and people have paid, you can't cancel yet. Refund them from the guest list first, or turn auto-refund on and cancel. This is on purpose: once an event is cancelled its page is gone, so nobody's money is allowed to still be sitting on it.
